Op-shop pricing. With the obvious exception of large screen televisions which can apparently be purchased for the price of a panini, op-shop prices have increased pretty sharply over the past 10 years. Yeah yeah, there's the odd obscure church based one that has 2015 prices, but hey, ya know what, the stuff is very, very rarely any good. It's all like Anko and Rivers and tea cosies and low resolution plastic framed Margaret Keane prints. Anyway, I stand by my opinion that Abbotsford Salvo's is THE best op-shop in Melbourne, bar none. Firstly, those $2 and discount racks up front. Yeah, there's good stuff in those racks. Legitimately good stuff. Abbotsford just has better quality and better variety of stock than any other op-shop, and the prices, while higher than years past, are still some of the best in Melbourne. Staff are nice, it's well organised, the furniture is great and actually fairly aggressively priced for what you can get, and again, there's just fantastic variety. I feel like I'm never surprised by other op-shops, but I am constantly surprised by what I find in Abbotsford. It's busy, and it's a central collection point, so there's a pretty constant turnover of stock.

All Salvos stores are daylight robbery now and this one is no exception. However they do have a bunch of racks at the front of the store with $2 items, otherwise I would have given 1 star. Pictured is the regular jeans rack, prices range $25-$35 a pair.

Prices are out of control now. Used to be my favourite op shop, it’s so sad but I bypass it now due to the greed. I found an old port bottle for $20, decided to buy it then found the same one at an independent op shop the next week for $5. See photos below for a: $15 dirty top, $25 for a polyester Target coat, $48 for a beaten up pair of boots and $55 for a jug. Cheaper to go to Kmart, which is terribly unsupportive for our community and landfill.

I’ve picked up some lovely things for home here, but something is happening to the pricing approach at this location - it’s wild. Example, some bubble glass bud vases priced more than they would be in a curated vintage store. See photos. Another example, (which I don’t have photos for) a Bendigo Pottery vase which I picked up elsewhere for $19 recently (and I thought THAT was steep!) is going for $29 here. Woah.

Doesn’t seem like there’s any attempt to organise sizes. Compared to similar stores, it’s impressively inefficient. I was faced with two choices: spend half the day rummaging, or leave after 90 seconds. I chose the latter.
