Kamaruka
Quick info
Overview
Kamaruka Education Centre is a specialist independent school at 52 River Street, South Yarra, providing education for boys with behavioural, emotional, and learning difficulties from Prep through to Year 9. River Street is a quiet residential street in South Yarra near the Yarra River, just south of the suburb's vibrant commercial heart around Chapel Street and Toorak Road. The school's specialist focus enables highly individualised, therapeutic educational support in a calm, structured environment separated from the pace of mainstream schooling. The Yarra River and its extensive parkland corridor — including Fawkner Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens — are within easy reach, providing natural, therapeutic recreational space incorporated into the school's programme. Chapel Street's busy café, retail, and dining precinct is a short walk to the east, as is Toorak Road's restaurant and boutique shopping strip. South Yarra Railway Station on the Alamein and Lilydale lines provides excellent city access. Trams on Domain Road and Chapel Street traverse the suburb. Families drive to the school from across the southern and eastern metropolitan suburbs, attracted by Kamaruka's specialist provision and therapeutic approach. The school's quiet River Street location, close to the Yarra's calming greenery, creates an environment well-matched to the needs of its students and the intent of its programme.

Our school is a specialist school that caters for boys with ADHD although we also work with boys with Autism. Unfortunately, not every boy is suited to our environment. The ones that are thrive and it's unfortunate that we are unable to help every student that walks through our doors but we do try and hope they find the school that is the right fit for them. Kamaruka is more than a school, it's a family.”

He has been identified as a 2e learner (gifted with ADHD and dysgraphia) He is thriving and learning and happy. Having an environment that meets his needs has worked for him..that is small groups, movement (martial arts and action 4),strict boundries, small space, excellent staff, 4 camps each year...... For us the communication and reports are honest and deliver his strengths and difficulties, the staff have been supportive and responsive to our queries.”
