★★★★★“On Waverley Road in Malvern East where the streets are wide, the trams clang, the trees behave like they’ve been groomed by a stylist, and the real estate probably costs more than a small European republic you’ll find Moma Social Café doing its thing without fuss or pretension. This is a local haunt in the best possible sense. Families roll in with prams, professionals sneak out for caffeine and sanity, and everyone seems to know they’re onto something good. We landed late of a quick lunch, obviously missing the rush. The welcome was warm, genuine, no rehearsed hospitality script here, just people who clearly care. The chicken tacos were the stars: soft, marinated chicken piled high with pineapple, coriander, lime and a punchy salsa that actually tastes alive. Messy, bright, satisfying. The salt-and-pepper calamari was light, crisp, herb laced, with chips that demand to be stolen off your colleagues plate. Add excellent coffee and you’ve got a place that understands exactly what lunch should be.👌🏼”

★★★★☆“@fo0die was kindly invited to Degani Malvern East Cafe. No doubt Degani is a familiar name to many people. And judging by the reviews here, it is well loved by many. What surprised us was their extensive menu – there’s literally something for everyone. The café has cosy wooden interiors and outdoor seating with blankets and heating, making it inviting year-round (especially Melbourne weather where you can experience all 4 seasons in one day!) Some local favourites are their chilli eggs, omelette your way and big breakfast which offer great value. Coffee comes in mug size, leaning on the bitter side, while the mocha was more sweet and hot-chocolate like. We tried the breakfast bruschetta and smashed avo – both served with two slices of sourdough (make sure to pace yourself with the toppings to make it last both slices!). Poached eggs were perfect, though the Spanish onion cutting was a little inconsistent. Overall, generous portions, a warm atmosphere and plenty of choice make this a reliable brunch spot. We can see why locals love this cafe.”
