★★★★★“It was my first visit to this restaurant, we had lunch with a few friends upstairs where they serve fine dining food (midori kaiseki ). Although I am not a vegetarian I loved the food there. I am surprised that this restaurant is not in the Age Good Food guide, it truly deserves it. I had the VG charcoal Bun Bao, the egg Chawanmushi and, as a main the Crispy king oyster mushrooms steak . All of these were excellent and nicely presented on the plate,m. A friend also recommended a delicious rice bowl cake (Wangao) . Service was discreet and excellent. I'll definitely come back with my vegetarian friends.”

★★★★★“Midori by Tao's is an absolute gem! As a non-vegan, I was blown away by the creativity and quality of the food here. It's a must-try for anyone interested in innovative Japanese cuisine. The star of the show is, of course, the vegan sushi train. Plates like the "salmon" nigiri and California rolls look incredibly realistic but are crafted entirely from plant-based ingredients. The signature "sashimi," made from konjac, has a wonderfully smooth texture and a fresh, clean taste that pairs perfectly with soy and wasabi. It's a revelation! We also ordered several hot dishes from the menu, and they were equally impressive. The Laksa Udon was rich and aromatic, and the tempura was light and crispy without being oily. The restaurant itself has a modern, tranquil ambiance, making it perfect for everything from a casual meal to a proper sit-down dinner. I've already recommended it to all my friends and will definitely be returning to try their fine dining menu. A truly fantastic dining experience!”

★★★★★“Tried this vegetarian restaurant in Balwyn recently and it was such a refreshing experience. The focus here isn’t on mock meats, but on whole, natural ingredients prepared in creative ways. You can really taste the freshness in every dish. One of the highlights for me was their teriyaki “eel” — made from mashed potato wrapped in tofu skin and seaweed, then fried and grilled. The texture was surprisingly satisfying, and the sauce was rich without being heavy. They also had some beautifully plated Japanese- and Chinese-inspired dishes that felt nourishing rather than indulgent. The restaurant atmosphere is calm and welcoming, perfect if you want a healthier dining option that still feels special. Staff were friendly and explained the dishes really well. Even though I usually eat meat, I left feeling full and impressed. Definitely recommend this spot if you’re curious about modern plant-based dining or just want something lighter and wholesome without sacrificing flavor.”

★★★★☆“Came for a meal at 2pm. Open till 3pm. Was told by both staff to order any hot food within 15 min as the kitchen would be closing. I quickly ordered the sugar cain shrimp and oat milk ramen. Both were ok but I wouldn't order them again. I grabbed 2 little plates of sushi from the conveyor. The cucumber carrot maki was standard. The green lava roll was interesting. I'd like to go back but I wouldn't bother with the hot food as it's over priced and I could have had 6 different plates from the train for the same price as 2 hot dishes. On a positive note I was full from what I ate. All up, 4 items and tea $42 I feel like they are trying to be high end but providing average. I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Lastly, the toilet was disgusting. It was beyond just dirty. The floor was so sticky that it made MY shoes sticky. For me, the toilets are a sign of how a place keeps its back of house and this was not a good sign. I'd give 3.5 ☆ if I could. Not great but slightly above average.”
